John M. Wallace, chair of the Homewood Children's Village board of directors and professor of social work at the University of Pittsburgh, is being honored as an "activist scholar" for his role in helping to establish the HCV.
He will receive the Marilyn J. Gittell Activist Scholar Award during a special plenary session at the Urban Affairs Association's national conference this month. The award comes from UAA and SAGE Publications, which specializes in textbooks, journals and reference works.
Wallace will also give a speech at the plenary session, which will be held at 4 pm on April 20, in the Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh Hotel. The session will be open to the public.
(DISCLOSURE: Homewood Nation publisher Elwin Green has been invited to participate in the session as a discussant, to present a response to Wallace's presentation.)
Besides his roles at HCV and at PItt, where he is the Philip Hallen Chair in Community Health and Social Justice, Wallace is pastor of Bible Center Church, which meets at Westinghouse High School.
