A weekly series of poetry readings offered its second installment today.
The series, "Words on the Steps," is being presented from 5:30 - 7 pm each Wednesday on the front steps of the Homewood Carnegie Library by The United Black Book Clubs of Pittsburgh.
The poetry readings will continue through the month of August.

Bad news: When I went to the Carnegie Library this afternoon for a meeting, the air conditioning was out again.
Good news: Branch head Denise Graham said that Duquesne Light has found the culprit in the A/C problem - a bad transformer behind the library, and that they will replace the offending unit in the morning.

Ms. Graham shared that heads up with Kilolo Luckett and me as we were leaving the library after a meeting to work on "Hidden Gems," the program we're planning on Sept. 15 about Homewood's architecture.
She also offered to share something else with us - herbs from the garden in the library's front lawn:
I don't know what all of those plants are; I only know that I brought home a head of Bibb lettuce, a couple branches of basil, and a big sprig of mint (photo by Kilolo Luckett).
