House of Manna pastor, Rev. Eugene "Free Dom " Blackwell, was among the volunteers at the Homewood Liquids Station in today's running of the Dick's Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon.
As I write this, thousands of runners are still passing through Homewood as they reach the 17.6 mile mark in the 2013 Dick's Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon
At that mark, the Homewood Liquids Station is set up in front of Homewood House, a senior residence in the 7100 block of Frankstown Avenue.
There, scores of volunteers serve up water, Gatorade, and lots of cheers, with an enthusiasm that led runners from previous marathons to name the Homewood station as one of their favorite spots along their 26-mile course through the City.
This is the fifth year that Operation Better Block Inc. has organized volunteers for the marathon, said OBB staffer Jose Diaz. This year the event's sponsor, Dick's Sporting Goods, added a Cinco de Mayo theme to the effort, outfitting volunteers with sombreros and tambourines.
