New Category Needed for Stories of Police Misconduct

Posted by Abdur-Rahman Shareef on July 2, 2013 at 9:35 PM

Greetings All,

After attending another follow-up meeting regarding the Henderson and Stewart incident again at CEA (Community Empowerment Association) there were a host of people that got up and told us about their incidents regarding Police misconduct and I thought that we need to document these stories and what better place to put them but here on Homewood Nation!  Also, I think that we all need to post more on this site and that this site should be our repository for all our discussions and etc....

Regards,

Thanks for that suggestion. When I first created Homewood Nation, one of the features was a Forums section, in which people could post discussion topics and others could join in with whatever they had to say. I discontinued it after a point because it was receiving so little use.

I believe that a discussion thread in the Forums section would suit the purpose of having a repository where people could report on encounters with the police. So I have revived the Forums, and created a topic folder titled, "Encounters With Police." Check it out!

I have also added places to upload visual documentation. In the Photo Gallery, there is now an "Encounters with Police" category, and in the Videos section, an "Encounters with Police" channel. Any member can upload items to either of these sections.

Great!!! These stories should/could help us gauge how many people have been affected and we need to follow-up and see if they filed a complaint even though for many the time frame has expired which is 6 months from the date of the incident.

Reports from a community in transition

In October 2005, after a bullet came through his living room window, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporter Elwin Green began writing "My Homewood," the first blog on the P-G's website. For 4 1/2 years, "My Homewood" shared stories of tragedy and beauty, of perplexity and hope - stories that live again in "The Homewood Chronicles."
